MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate)

Moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) is a critical performance metric in blister packaging, particularly for moisture-sensitive pharmaceutical products. Measured under accelerated temperature and humidity conditions, MVTR indicates how effectively a packaging structure limits moisture ingress over time. Lower MVTR values correspond to higher moisture barrier performance and are often a key factor in material selection for products requiring extended shelf life and stability.

OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate)

Oxygen transmission rate (OTR) measures the amount of oxygen permeating through a packaging material under defined test conditions. For pharmaceuticals sensitive to oxidation, controlling oxygen exposure is essential to preserving product potency and efficacy. Lower OTR values indicate stronger oxygen barrier performance and help inform material selection where oxidative degradation is a concern.

Not sure which film to use?

Selecting the optimal blister film requires balancing barrier performance, stability requirements, forming behavior, and regulatory considerations. When trade-offs between moisture and oxygen protection aren’t straightforward, our i.center experts can help evaluate material options and guide selection based on your specific formulation, packaging process, and lifecycle needs.

Through application engineering, material testing, and packaging expertise, i.center supports informed decision-making to help reduce development time, minimize risk, and move projects forward with confidence.
